It was located near the former site of Baikei Elementary School.

The first Kyoto Station opened on February 5, 1877. It stood about 200 meters north of the present station, near what is now the bus terminal at Kyoto Station’s north exit.

Because it was close to Shichijo Street, it was also commonly known as “Shichijo Station.”

The station was built just outside the southern edge of Kyoto’s urban area at the time, partly due to land acquisition considerations and plans to extend the railway east of Kyoto.

In 1914, the second station building was completed, and the railway tracks were moved south to their present location.

In 1928, Nara Electric Railway (later the Kintetsu Kyoto Line in 1963) opened its Kyoto Station on the south side. The third Kyoto Station building was completed in 1952.

In 1964, the Tokaido Shinkansen station opened on the Hachijo Exit side. In 1987, Japanese National Railways was reorganized, and Kyoto Station became part of JR West.

In 1997, the fourth-generation Kyoto Station building, which is still in use today, opened to the public.

["post-1461","article","type-article","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","en-US
["GET
