Overview

Leave the city behind and walk Kyoto’s shadowed paths—through a forgotten mountain shrine, deserted bamboo groves, and an abandoned castle. This tour uncovers stories, spirits, and places where time feels suspended.

Step beyond Kyoto’s well-traveled streets and enter a quieter, more enigmatic world—one where sacred mountains, abandoned places, and imperial history meet at the edge of the unseen.

Your journey begins at Kyoto Station, where you meet your guide at the MK VIP Station near the Hachijo Exit. From there, travel by private taxi to the forested outskirts of southern Kyoto, leaving the modern city behind.

Your first destination is Oiwa Shrine, a secluded Shinto sanctuary hidden deep within the mountains. Long associated with spiritual power and local legends, this rarely visited shrine invites quiet exploration and reflection. As you walk its moss-covered paths, your guide will introduce the beliefs, stories, and mysteries that surround this sacred place.

Climb to the summit of Mount Oiwa and enjoy a peaceful picnic with sweeping views over the landscape below. Here, surrounded by wind and trees, the boundary between the everyday world and the spiritual realm feels especially thin.

Descending from the mountain, you’ll take a slow stroll through deserted bamboo groves and a quiet park, following paths few visitors ever see. The silence and isolation create an atmosphere often described as haunting, yet deeply calming.

Next, arrive at Fushimi Momoyama Castle, an abandoned castle complex that once symbolized power and ambition. Though no longer in use, the site retains an unmistakable presence—its empty grounds and closed structures echoing with traces of the past.

From the castle, follow a historic walking trail toward the final destination, passing through paths steeped in memory and history.

The journey concludes at the Mausoleum of Emperor Meiji, where the Meiji Emperor rests in solemn dignity. Here, amid towering trees and carefully arranged stone, the tour ends on a quiet, contemplative note—connecting spirits, history, and place.

We will finish in front of Momoyama-Minamiguchi Station (Keihan Line) OR Momoyama Station (JR Line) depending on your convenience.

This tour is ideal for travelers seeking hidden Kyoto, abandoned places, ghost stories, hidden shrines, and the subtle mysteries — a walk through spaces where time, memory, and the unseen quietly converge.
