Overview

This is a high-quality and relaxing one-day hire tour where you can deeply enjoy Takashima’s water culture. Departing from Kyoto Station Hachijo Exit, the first place I visited was “Ukawa Farm Mart.” You will experience the “blessings of water” of the region by touching fresh agricultural products and processed products nurtured by the water and fertile soil of the Hira Mountains. Next, I visited the ruins of Omizo Castle, Otomegaike Pond, and Jinya Main Gate, and strolled through the history of a castle town with waterways and the appearance of a city built with water. For lunch, enjoy the specialty eel at the long-established “Seiyu Main Store” and enjoy the food culture nurtured by Lake Biwa’s water. In the afternoon, I went to the world of sake brewing using groundwater at Kawashima Brewery. You will experience the depth of water and fermentation culture through the stories and tastings of brewers. Encounter local specialties and crafts at “Takashima Village,” which has been renovated and regenerated from a 170-year-old merchant house and storehouse, and concluded the trip by going to Shirahige Shrine, where torii gates stand in the middle of the lake. The mystical landscape linked to Lake Biwa and faith will calm your mind. Finally, it’s a heart-filling itinerary where you return to Kyoto with a rich afterglow in your heart.
